Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
I am so sick of being stuffy and sneezy.  We spent hours and hours outside last week, and I've been paying for it for the past three days.  I even considered taking Zyrtec or Claritin . . . but the pharmacist said they were a no-no for nursing (not what kellymom says . . . I may cave in and try something if this goes on much longer).

On a more positive note, I finished knitting this owl and just need to add it's eyes.  It came out great -- my most complicated project so far and I just love him.  I'm going to make one for my mom, too.  I also have to post pics of the gnomes I knitted (knitted?  is that right?) for the kids for Easter.   They are much loved, but were very simple to make so I don't feel very impressed by them.

I have been googling for free stuffed animal patterns lately, and finding quite a bit . . . but if you know of any good sites, please comment with them so I can check them out.  Even if they're not for stuffed animals . . . I'd try other stuff too, knit shorts or skirts for the kids, whatever.  I'm going to need another week on my mom's owl, and then I'll be looking for something else to make.

I need to go fold laundry now since we're going to Mike's parents' house in a little while.

Maybe my head will unstuff at some point today.

I'd take it, I mean, Elise has been taking Zyrtec for a year now, so I doubt whatever Ronin gets from your milk will hurt.

Ooh, good to know. Does it work for her?

it works about as well as anything really can. We have ridiculous pollen levels here, and she inherited Chris's allergies, so they both take it actually. Sometimes she needs a little benedryl in between her doses, but it usually does pretty well.

My regular claritin is fine for nursing. Give me a list of drug names that you hve and I'll look them up in Hales. There are definitely things you can take.

Thanks, Erin! I will have to try it . . . Mike has used Claritin and says it works. I just hardly ever take anything! We don't even have any drugs in the house really . . . some Advil and Mike's Tylenol PM, and I think a few things for the kids in case they need them. They always go bad before they get used.

My ND suggested a few other things to help reduce the severity of my allergies as well. Basically, your body can deal with a certain volume of allergens- for some people the threshold is very high for others much lower. SInce things like dust and mites are pretty allergenic, and since we spend the most time of our dya in our bedrooms, she suggests keeping that area clean- washing bed linens once a week in very hot water, throwing pillows in the dryer on hot (to kill dust mites), sleeping with clothing put away and closet doors closed and minimizing the dust in the room. The idea is if you can impact the allergens you are exposed to in some small way, you will handle tree pollen/flower pollen/mold/whatever is triggering your allergies better. And since I can't get rid of the pollen, I have to settle for cleaning up the bedroom:)

It seems to help, even though all my windows are covered in pollen....

Those are great tips! I am realy lazy about keeping the bedroom clean, but I'm going to have to try that for me and the kids.

I seem to be getting better now, but this comes up every season change and everytime the weather goes from cold to warm in the winter. The kids get it too, but they seem less bothered by it than I am.

Jess, doing saline sinus irrigations help. You can google the term and find instructions. They sell kits now too but making your own saline solution and using a baby nasal bulb syringe is a lot cheaper.

Isn't it cute? I just finished the one I was making for my mom, and as soon as I can get more yarn, I'll start one for Johanna. It makes me feel like I'm good at knitting . . . it's really easy, but it looks like something cool!

We used to have a great pharmacist who was actually helpful with nursing and meds. This guy is young, new, and I gather just kind of skittish!
